Magna-Tac 2220 is a vinyl modified epoxy adhesive. It is lightly filled and a paste consistency which combined with a slight degree of initial tack, keeps the adhesive in place during cure. MAGNA-TAC 2220 adhesive forms rigid, impact-resistant with the Activators that are recommended for use with it.
Magna-Tac 2220 adhesive has a continuous service rating of 65F to 250 F. Where the application is relatively passive temperatures as low as 110 F and as high as 325 F may be tolerated.
Typical applications
Magna-Tac 2220 adhesive is particularly useful for bonding copper and its alloys; also excellent for bonding aluminum, stainless steel, nickel and dissimilar metals. Due to the wide temperature range it is very useful for sealing, especially where uneven surfaces and wide gaps preclude the use of a lower viscosity or flowing-type adhesive. This adhesive will not support fungus growth.
Curing systems
Activator "A" offers relatively short time room temperature cures due to its low combining weight which causes a minimum reduction in viscosity of the MAGNA-TAC 2220 adhesive.
Activator "E" is a low reactivity activator. It is designed for use only where long working life is necessary and elevated cure temperatures can be tolerated. It is not recommended for use where room temperature cures must be employed.
Activator H-20 combines longer working life and room temperature cures with improved physical properties. Its higher combining weight creates a much easier to handle adhesive system. adhesive joints will cure to a good handling strength in 16 hours at room temperature. 14-20 mixtures can be cured quite rapidly at elevated temperatures when necessary, e.g., 30 minutes at 165E F will offer physical properties equal to is hours at room temperature.
